Thanks to everyone who attended the 44th Annual Thomasville Fly-In, October 7 - 9, 2011!  The weather unfortunately is not under our control; all weekend, we had strong winds more or less straight down Runway 04, but gusting to 26 knots.  All pilots arriving and departing did a magnificent job of handing that much wind.  We had low ceilings and sprinkles of rain throughout the weekend. Even less favorable weather to our south kept a lot of our Florida friends from visiting us.  A few people rented cars and left their aircraft in Thomasville until weather conditions improve - we have put as many of those as possible under hangars.

Despite the weather, 2011 proved to be a successful fly-in overall.  We had several rare aircraft, including a 1928 Stinson Detroiter and a 1936 Lockheed 12A.  We had a total of 110 aircraft registered, though in past years we have been averaging around 300.   FAA's Billy Hattaway delivered his FAAST team program to a standing-room-only crowd in the terminal conference room.  We also had a lot of campers; everyone who came supported the Thomasville Aviation Club-sponsored meals and helped us financially to have a break-even year -- thank you for your support!

The candy drop is always the highlight of the event for the many kids who attend the fly-in.  Many drive in with their parents from the local area and get their first exposure to general aviation with us.  It is always amazing to
watch the wave of children descending the hill when the candy falls!

A new and well-received activity this year was the addition of Friday night's Mega Movies double-feature under the stars.  Thanks, Karen, for visiting us in Thomasville with your outdoor big-screen theatre system -- we look forward to enjoying movies again next!
